GLOBAL APPEAL

When thinking of significant international film industries the cinema of Chile is not one, one would often think of. Surprisingly, the chilean industry has had a moderate influence and appeal on audiences and other film industries around the world. Within hollywood, many Chilean filmmakers have broken in, and have made a name for themselves. Filmmakers like oscar-award winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda, who has worked on films like Life or Pie and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and director Alexander Witt, who’s filmography includes Resident Evil. Both have proven what a chilean individual can accomplish in the massive hollywood machine. As for film makers bringing the global attention to pure chile cinema, Alejandro Jodorowsky can be considered one of the most significant influences. Well known for creating avant-garde films, he has gained cult success within the united states and european audiences.

    A recent development as

of 2015 as been the

emergence of a group of

mainly chilean film makers

going by the movement

ame “Chilewood”. Their

goal is to create genre films for world wide audiences by taking chances and going off instinct instead of following the hollywood system of business filmmaking. This is a direct attempt by Nicolás López to give Chile cinema the world wide recognition it deserves. With this chile style of film making, it has attracted big names like keanu Reeves and Eli Roth, who have partnered with Lopez on this movement. By attracting these big hollywood names names, worldwide audiences have followed and have been able to witness the emerging chilean talent involved in this movement.
